Bold Stripes, Bright Stars, Brave Hearts

Wishing you a joyful Memorial Day! I hope you have exciting plans in store to celebrate the long weekend with your friends and family. While it's a fantastic time to indulge in a delicious barbecue or catch a thrilling ballgame, let's not forget the true essence of this day. It presents us with a chance to pause and express heartfelt gratitude for the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we hold dear.

If you're seeking a unique and meaningful way to celebrate, consider incorporating activities that honor our fallen heroes. You could visit a local memorial, participate in a memorial service or parade, or even engage in acts of kindness and support for veterans and their families. These alternative ways of commemorating Memorial Day allow us to pay our respects while also recognizing the immense sacrifice made by those who fought for our nation's values.

Looking for a local observance? Check out this Walnut Creek event!

Monday, May 29th, 10:00 a.m., Civic Park

Make sure to include a visit to Walnut Creek on Memorial Day to participate in the city's annual tribute to the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. This year holds special significance as it commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. Mayor Silva will deliver a heartfelt reflection on the lives of Walnut Creek residents who lost their lives during the war. The Walnut Creek Concert Band will fill the air with patriotic melodies, adding to the solemn atmosphere.

The commemoration will conclude with a solemn procession across the street to the Veterans Memorial outside City Hall. There, the poignant tune of Taps will resound, accompanied by the lowering of the flags to half-staff, honoring the fallen heroes.

Can’t attend an event? Consider participating in the National Moment of Remembrance

Every Memorial Day, at 3:00 p.m., a momentous tradition known as the National Moment of Remembrance is observed in the United States. It is a solemn occasion when people across the nation pause and participate in a moment of silence, dedicating it to honoring the courageous military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

During this poignant moment, individuals are encouraged to engage in deep reflection, contemplating the selflessness and bravery demonstrated by these fallen heroes. It is an opportunity to express gratitude for their unwavering dedication and service. The National Moment of Remembrance strives to foster a sense of unity and togetherness, transcending differences and enabling people from all walks of life to come together in paying homage to and remembering those who have fearlessly given their lives for the nation.

May your holiday weekend be filled with thoughtful moments, safety, and fun!
